This training guide teaches 3D CAD skills through easy to use, step-by-step sessions. It’s designed for anyone wishing to learn TurboCAD in a self-paced, structured session format, but is also appropriate for students learning CAD for the first time in a classroom setting, whether at school, college, university or any educational institution.

The Easiest Way to Learn 3D Computer-Aided Design with TurboCAD

Learning the Basics

All you’ll ever need to know about the TurboCAD tools used to construct ANY 3-dimensional design.  Tools discussed and demonstrated during this session include :

User Interface | Customizing your TurboCAD desktop specifically for 3D design.

Palettes and Frequently Used Tools | Includes the Selection Info Palette, the Design Director and the Drafting Palette and Drafting Objects Palette.

3D Design Environment |  Program & Drawing Settings for 3D workspace, Standard & Isometric Views, The Coordinate system, Workplanes and Render Modes.

3D Object Handling | Learning how to select, modify and manipulate objects in 3D workspace.

Creating & Extruding Profiles | Extruding closed and open profiles to create 3D objects.  Extruding compound profiles.

Parametric Updates |  Using the Selection Info Palette to view and modify the dimensional properties of objects.

The 3D Model | Using 3D Objects, Boolean Facet tools, 3D Modification & Assembly tools.

Solid Modeling | Using the Deformable, Sub-Divisional Modeling and Surface-to-Solid Conversion tools.

3D Scene | Using photo-realistic render modes to create unique camera angles and rendering.

Page Layout Wizard | Rapidly constructs 2D layouts in a paper space page layout of a 3D model.  Standard Orthographic and Isometric views can be produced as well sectional views.

After learning the basic 3D tools, now proceed to 10 self-paced Worksessions which contain all the tasks learned in the TurboCAD 3D tools section.  Each contains a video animation showing each task from start-to-completion.

  • Use 2D sketch geometry to create profiles.
  • Extrude profiles to create solid objects.
  • Apply a user defined Workplane.
  • Create a simple extrusion of a profile.
  • Add dimensions to the 3D model.

3DSession02| Session 2 |

  • Using 2D boolean functions to add profiles together to create one region.
  • Using 2D boolean functions to create a profile with an extracted region.
  • Using Relative coordinates to copy an object.
  • Object handling and rotation.
  • Moving between the 2D/3D selector mode.
  • Using  3D boolean function to combine or separate the volumes of 2 solids.

  • Assembling objects using source and destination points, edges, facets and axes.
  • Creating a wall thickness using Shell solid.
  • Creating profiles using boolean functions
  • Combining the volume of solids using 3D Add.
  • Using artistic context to present the model.

  • Assembling objects using source and destination points, edges, facets and axes.
  • Creating a wall thickness using Shell solid.

  • Revolving a profile about an axis to produce a solid object.
  • Using smaller solid objects as subtracting units to remove volume from a primary solid.
  • Duplicating objects in a rectangular pattern.
  • Using the Thread tool to create an interior thread.

  • Using connected 2D profiles to create solid objects
  • Assembling 2D objects
  • Revolving a profile
  • Creating an equidistant above and below Workplane extrusion.

  • Creating a solid shape by connecting the vertices of profiles on different elevations.
  • Creating a user-defined Workplane.
  • Defining where the Workplane intersects with a solid.
  • Applying a uniform pressure load on a surface.

3DSession08 | Session 8 |

  • Sectioning a solid using the Workplane and a closed polyline.
  • Using the Facet Editor tool to modify the surface of an object.
  • Creating an offset from a contour.
  • Moving objects to the current Workplane.
  • Inserting holes which automatically subtract material.

 3DSession09 | Session 9 |

  • Extrusion and Sweep features : twist and taper.
  • Creating a Twisted Extrusion.
  • Creating a Surface from a Solid.
  • Using the Facet Editor to remove a face.
  • Assembling by Edge.

3DSession10 | Session 10 |

  • Creating a view of a component.
  • Creating a view of the full assembly.
  • Inserting standard, isometric and sectional views.
  • Aligning sectional views.
  • Creating projection views.
  • The view scale and alignment.
  • Adding new pages to the paper space layout.
